Where is yin alvarez from

Teaching math is WAY easier than teaching gymnastics. Over time, Yin and I came to a point where we had a mutual respect. I accepted that Yin deserved his notoriety and success. I have never known anyone who was a harder worker. I know that it broke his heart when he closed his gym. Every penny that he made for teaching clinics or other activities was used to keep the gym open. Up until the end I am sure that he thought he could make it all work out.

He was in denial. The end came crashing down on him. He thought that he could pull off one more miracle. I was sad.

However, I know that Yin will land on his feet. He is a modern gymnastics legend. He will teach clinics, do commentary on Spanish, language sports TV, or take a head coaching job somewhere. Yin is a coach, not a business person. I hope that his students understand that he fell on his sword for them. Yin and his students are embarking on a new challenge. Today is either the best day of their life or the worst day of their life.

It depends on what they do. I hope that today is the best day of their life. I hope they appreciate his sacrifice. Like Like. So far. This is also where he first met Maria Gonzalez, Leyva's mother. But Alvarez couldn't shake his Olympic ambitions, and felt that his home country was not the best place to foster them. After traveling with an international gymnastics team to Mexico, Alvarez decided to do something risky : swim through the frigid waters of the Rio Grande to America.

Despite not knowing anyone in the country, Alvarez's ambitions carried him through. So that was pushing me to swim faster and faster.

His leap into the Rio Grande paid off, too. By the time Gonzalez joined him in the states with two-year-old Leyva, Alvarez had already saved up and purchased the gym equipment he needed to start his own facility. Leyva's stepfather and mother, who married in , were soon able to place him in the gym they built just south of Miami.

With Alvarez's training and enthusiasm, Leyva went on to become the U. Alvarez's mother did not like the circus and did not approve, so his uncle, who was then chairman of Cuba's soccer federation, suggested he try gymnastics. Gymnastics was not a popular sport in Cuba and although the island nation has been participating in the sport at the Olympic Games since , it has yet to earn a medal on the sport's largest stage. By the age of seven, Alvarez earned a spot at Cuba's national school of gymnastics, where he lived, ate, studied and trained.

As a member of the Cuban national team, Alvarez specialized on floor, rings and high bar, and competed all-round when needed.

He admits now that he was never one of the top gymnasts and sometimes gave up too easily. Alvarez said recognizing that has helped him in the long run. Click here to read the rest of the story. You Are Not Logged In.
