And all of this is happening while the game's Icebrood Saga campaign continues to disappoint and significant efforts are made towards the in-game cash shop with each update. At this stage, anyone who isn't just a casual open world player feels like they are being actively driven away by Arena Net. Guild Wars 2 is a fantastic game with some of the best gameplay of any MMO on the market, but that gameplay can't shine without quality content.
Some of these players have been actively involved with the franchise since its inception over 15 years ago, and they don't want to stop playing. But if Arena Net doesn't make serious strides towards solving these problems with this upcoming expansion, Guild Wars 2 is probably done for, because the players won't come back if it fails. The Mastery interface was redesigned and the story instance was extended. Events for the World versus World Desert Borderlands are limited to invited players only. Accounts that have pre-purchased Heart of Thorns gain access to each Beta weekend event. ArenaNet announced on the 14th of December, , that closed beta testing would start on that Friday, the 16th.
Aside from the date, nothing else was known about this first closed beta event. The test in February was the first widely-publicized closed beta; various members of the media were invited to take part. The following is a partial list of their reports:. On the 22nd of February, ArenaNet offered players the opportunity to register to participate in future beta events; they received over 1 million applications in a little over 48 hours.
The third closed beta event included selected members of the press and a large number of players selected from the registration pool above. Testing followed a similar pattern to the second. Although invited players were covered by the NDA, individual publications were cleared to release relevant media beginning on March This event concluded with an Inquest Invasion of Divinity's Reach.
Beta weekend events ran between noon Pacific time on the designated Friday and ended at p. Pacific on the following Sunday. EDT on Monday the 11th. As in prior events, the only way to guarantee access to this event is to pre-purchase the game.
In addition to a date, a little light was shed on changes made to the beta for the upcoming weekend. To begin with, existing characters will not be deleted, despite fears and whispers to the contrary! This will give more players a chance to hit the level 35 mark to make it into the available dungeon. Additionally, in response to feedback from the first BWE, changes have been made to overflow server functionality, chat, key binding capabilities, server stability, and general performance.
There wasn't a whole lot of explanation on what went into these changes, but the community will evidently be able to test things out for itself in a pretty short while.
