If you're using Microsoft Word or another word processing tool, you can customize how much space you want between lines. Generally, you can choose between four types of line spacing in Word: single spacing; 1. Whether you're writing by hand, using a word processor or working with a traditional typewriter, you need to leave some space between lines of text, for readability.
If you leave too little space, the lines can appear jumped together and difficult to read. If you leave too much space, the page can appear blank and readers may be discouraged from following the sparse amount of text down the page.
Single and double spacing are the most common types of spacing you'll encounter, and they're options that are available when you set line spacing in Word or in another digital tool. In some cases, you may wish to use a custom amount of space between each line to make your text look best.
This is useful for separating paragraphs, headings, and subheadings. In our example, we'll increase the space before each paragraph to separate them a bit more. This will make it a little easier to read. From the drop-down menu, you can also select Line Spacing Options to open the Paragraph dialog box.
From here, you can control how much space there is before and after the paragraph. From the "Line spacing" drop-down list, choose the spacing you would like Word to use by default. From the "Before" and "After" drop-down lists, choose the amount of spacing between paragraphs you would like Word to use by default. If you want no extra spacing between paragraphs, set the spacing at 0 points.
