Cinnamon challenge how does it taste

A couple years ago I dared my two friends to do this challenge one night and it obviously failed miserably. One of my friends choked on the cinnamon so badly that he ended up throwing up into the sink, while the other one coughed it out all over the kitchen.

I was not aware of long term affects inhaling cinnamon had, however just from that experience it is obvious that there are much safer ways to spend a friday night and much more exciting, safe, things to do, such as these fun party games listed in this article!!! However cinnamon in more easily manageable doses has several health benefits.

In ancient times it was used for sore throats and fungal infections as well. Research at Penn State has even shown how the chemical compounds in cinnamon help in the metabolization of a fatty diet.

I found this information on Medical News Today. I actually tried this challenge myself a couple years ago not knowing what the outcome would be. Once I put the spoonful of cinnamon into my mouth it immediately tasted and felt like I ate a spoonful of dry sand. It is almost impossible for the cinnamon to become wet, so I spit it out. I could see how this challenge is dangerous because no one should be inhaling large amounts of powder.

In fact, the cinnamon challenge website states that more than 40, challenge videos have been posted on YouTube. Although cinnamon is harmless, delicious and has even been shown to have healthful effects when consumed in small amounts, it can be caustic to the airways when inhaled. The damage is caused by cellulose, a starch found in cinnamon powder that is harmless but does not break down. Therefore, when it is becomes lodged in the lungs due to coughing, it remains there in the long term.

If the lungs are coated with caustic cinnamon oil, it can lead to chronic inflammation and eventually scarring of the lungs — a phenomenon called pulmonary fibrosis, a condition equivalent to getting emphysema.

It can even cause pneumonia or a collapsed lung. Cinnamon also can trigger asthma flare-ups , making it hard to breathe. The unlucky ones end up in the hospital. Reviewed by: Kate M. Cronan, MD Date reviewed: May Note: All information on KidsHealth is for educational purposes only.
